Vander Hoven, a psychologist from Netherlands, announced his new discovery
about the effect of reading the Qur’an and repeating the word ALLAH both on
patients and on normal persons. The Dutch professor confirms his discovery
with studies and research applied on many patients over a period of three
years. Some of his patients were non-Muslims, others do not speak Arabic and
were trained to pronounce the word “ALLAH” clearly; the result was great,
particularly on those who suffer from dejection and tension.
“Al Watan”, a Saudi daily reported that the psychologist was quoted to say
that Muslims who can read Arabic and who read the Qur’an regularly can
protect themselves from psychological diseases. The psychologist explained
how each letter in the word “ALLAH” affects healing of psychological
diseases. He pointed out in his research that pronouncing the first letter
in the word “ALLAH” which is the letter (A), released from the respiratory
system, controls breathing. He added that pronouncing the velar consonant
(L) in the Arabic way, with the tongue touching slightly the upper part of
the jaw producing a short pause and then repeating the same pause
constantly, relaxes the aspiration. Also, pronouncing the last letter which
is the letter (H) makes a contact between the lungs and the heart and in
turn this contact controls the heart beat.
What is exciting in the study is that this psychologist is a non-Muslim, but
interested in Islamic sciences and searching for the secrets of the Holy
Qur’an. Allah, The Great and Glorious, says, “We will show them Our signs in
the universe and in their own selves, until it becomes manifest to them that
this (Qur’an) is the truth.” (Holy Qur’an 42:53)

I have searched online and have been unable to find this professor Vander Hoven. I am not refuting or disbleaving, I simply want to know if its true. There are other forums on the web where this discovery is being claimed false and before I post any response, I need to get the facts straight.

Raiz i just want to say that Vander De Hoven is the last name in Detuch and used mostly by a lot of people as my knowledge the link you just gave for Dr. Vander De hoven having first name “Jeroen” .
i just want to know why the poster just write the last of psychologist. why he just not write the full name or publish his report or some thing that proves that this is true
i am a muslim and believes that this is true.
But how i justify my Non Muslim Friends. In that case what i do????

The article is very interesting and can be true. Inshallah it is true! language has an ability to affect the person in many ways depending on how it is vocalized. When we look at the Science of Tajweed and apply the rules etc in our recitation of the Quran we will be transformed. The words of the Quran are words from Allah (SWT) they carry profound messages and the rhythem within each letter , each word and each sentance creates a symphony of sound that can and does effect the one reading , the one listening and even those that are not in close proximity. The positive vibrations of the quaran and the words of Allah can be felt deep in our souls. Hence the Quran is a healing and a mercy for mankind.
I want to trace the origins of this study and anyone who has any leads please contact me on Tasnimtk@yahoo.com. I am working on a project related to the mandatory Salaat that is the five times prayer in Islam in which we recite the Quran and this study is very important. There is work done in the states on Heath and Healing in the Quran by Ahmed Elkadi, MD . We need to gather all the information together for the benefit of mankind. I would welcome positive leads and replies.

Let’s be honest from now on… we are told lies and untruths all the time, especially by the Ulema, and we are instructed not to question things. This keeps us under the veil of darkness. Disappointed to know this particular research is untrue and being promoted by muslims ‘as evidence’. If your belief is so strong what do you need proof for?
I know praying and reciting the quran helps me to relax and get away from my worldly worries, I dont need any true or make believe research to tell me that. It is a proven fact spirituality/religion has a positive impact on our mental health. Please stop promoting false researches it just makes us all look stupid and desperate to justify our belief system.
I am a muslim because I have compared it to other religions and found it has many more answers, I dont need any research to tell me my religion is true. I am muslim and proud! For those of you that need proof, what religion told us 1400 yrs ago we were created from one drop, from that develops a small piece of meat. Downfall of Alcohol far outweighs the benefits, science has proven alcohol can cause or contribute to psychological issues, not to mention societal problems, need I go on. The ones that need proof turn to your quran and read it for yourself, it is the duty of EVERY human being, believers or non-believers to search for the truth, gain TRUE knowledge. May Allah or God guide you in reaching the truth.
