Our Mujtahid’s on shia sunni unity issue

Ayatullah SeestaniThe Statement of Ayatullah al-Udhma Sistani(HA) on the Subject of Islamic Unity and Against Sectarian Strife

In the Name of God, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate

“And hold fast, all together, by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves; ”
(Quran, Surah Aal-i-Imraan (#3), Verse 103)

Iraq’s top Shia cleric has renewed his call for an end to sectarian violence in the country and for Sunni and Shia Muslims to unite. Ayatollah Ali Al-Sistani, the highest Shia authority in Iraq, called on Shia Muslims to defend the political and social rights of the Sunnis before defending their own rights. Sayyed Sistani’s calls for unity came as a delegation consisting of prominent Sunni scholars and leaders from across Iraq arrived at his office in the southern Iraqi city of Al-Najaf to further the cause of unity and promote collective efforts to defuse sectarian tension within Iraq. Under the title of “the first national conference of Shias and Sunnis” the event kicked off Tuesday with several leading Shia leaders such as; Ayatollah Mohammad Saeed Al-Hakim, Ayatollah Ishaq Al-Fayyadh and Ayatollah Bashir Al-Najafi, in attendance. Sayyed Sistani also warned against the plans of the enemies who wish to plant seeds of discord among Iraqis.
Iraq’s top Shia cleric has renewed his call for an end to sectarian violence
in the country and for Sunni and Shia Muslims to unite.

Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani’s calls for unity came as a group of Sunni
and Shia clerics met in the holy city of Najaf in a bid to stem violence in the
war-torn country. A delegation consisting of leading figures from the Sunni
Association of Muslim Scholars as well as prominent Sunni scholars and leaders
from across Iraq arrived at the office of Ayatollah Ali Al-Sistani in the southern
Iraqi city of Al-Najaf to further the cause of unity and promote collective
efforts to defuse sectarian tension within Iraq.

Under the title of “the first national conference of Shias and Sunnis” the event
kicked off Tuesday with several prominent Shia leaders including; Ayatollah Mohammad
Saeed Al-Hakim, Ayatollah Ishaq Al-Fayyadh and Ayatollah Bashir Al-Najafi, in
attendance.

Ayatollah Al-Sistani, the highest Shia authority in Iraq, called on Shia Muslims
to defend the political and social rights of the Sunnis before defending their
own rights.

“I am a servant of all Iraqis … I love everyone as religion is love … I
wonder how enemies could split between Islamic sects”, the statement said
quoting al-Sistani.

“These meetings between the Shia and Sunni scholars are important and useful as
there are no real differences between Shias and Sunnis, yet there are
philological differences that exist even inside the same sect.

“We are united under one Kaaba, prayers and fasting.

“I am with all Iraqis when demanding their rights and will not prefer one to
another as Shias and Sunnis are equal.”

Meanwhile, chief of the southern Iraq branch of the Baghdad-based Association of
Muslim Scholars Khalid Al-Mulla hailed the conference as “a new opportunity for
exchanging views and unifying the ranks of Iraqi Sunnis and Shiites.” “We
believe that some major powers targeted the Iraqi national unity and used armed
groups such as Al-Qaeda, to perpetrate violent attacks against Samarra, Karbala,
Talafar and elsewhere,” he added.

Sayyed Sistani also warned those in attendance to guard against the plans of the
enemies who wish to plant seeds of discord among Iraqis.

The visiting delegation voiced their full support of Sayyed Sistani’s stance and announced the importance of the conference.

SAYED BAQAR NAQVI
NIMAULI FAIZABAD(U.P.)INDIA

9th of Rabiul Awwal marks the day when our present Imam a.s. assumed the position of Imamat in 260 AH and the perpetrators of Karbala got their just reward.
The Day also reminds us about the Hijra of our Prophet (pbuh) – 1st Rabiul Awwal &
The Marriage of our Prophet (pbuh) to Lady Khadija a.s. – 10th Rabiul Awwal.
All in all, it is one of the greatest days in the history of Islam and a Day of happiness and joy for the lovers of Ahlul Bayt a.s.,
which they mark by holding gatherings/Jashan and thanking Allah swt for His bounties!!!!!
“9th of Rabi al-Awwal is the day of Eid. It is our greatest Eid and the Eid of our followers.”
(As narrated to Ahmad ibn Is-haq al-Qummi by Imam Muhammad al-Hadi (A)

Rasulullah (saww) said, “Train your children in three things, the love of your Prophet, the love of his progeny i.e. Ahlul-bayt, and the recitation of the Quran”

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as) said, “The best means by which servants can obtain nearness to Allah, Mighty and Glorious, is the obedience of Allah, the obedience of his messenger, and the obedience of those charged with (spiritual ) authority.” Then, he added; ” The love of us (Ahlul-bayt) is Faith (Iman) and the hatred for us in infidelity (kufr).

After years of grieving for Imam Husain (as) and his companions (as), it was this time of the year when Imam Ali bin Husain Zainul Abideen (as) had a smile on his face. He received the good news that the great companion and true Shia, Al-Mukhtar al-Thaqafy (as) has taken revenge for the Ahlul-bayt (as) and killed off many of the criminals who tortured the Ahlul-bayt (as) in Kerbala.  Today we salute this great companion for his service to the true Islam.

This was the day, in Rabi’a al-Awwal, when Omar ibn Sa’ad [la], the killer of Imam Hussain (as) was killed by Hazrat Mukhtar (as).  This was the wretched criminal who was the first one to shoot an arrow towards Imam Hussain (as) on the 9th of Muharram 61 A.H. thus formally starting the war against Imam Hussain (as) ! And he proclaimed, ” O people of Kufa and Shaam, be witness hereto on the Day of Judgment, that I am the one who is the first to shoot an arrow at Hussain ” ! And saying this, he shot the arrow! Later, Imam Hussain (as) told them (the army of Yezid whose commander was this Omar ibn Sa’ad) that he needs to have a night for prayers !

Al-Mukhtar announced the aims of his revolution in Masjid-e-Kufa, “I’ll conform to Allah’s Book and to His Apostle’s Sunnah. I’ll take the revenge on Imam Husain’s killers. I’ll fight against those who have broken Allah’s laws. I’ll defend the weak against the strong”

It is only the lucky ones who have the opportunity to celebrate this Eid!  This was the day, when for the first time after the massacre of his father Imam Hussain (as) & his companions, that the 4th Imam (as) smiled!  Is this not enough an excuse to celebrate ? For, our joys are with the joys of Ma’soomeen (as) and our grief and sorrows are for them alone !

Imam Jaffer as-Sadiq (as) said; “Verily there are various degrees of serving Allah, but affection (and cordial inclination) for us, Ahlul-bayt, is the highest one.”

Imam Jaffer as-Sadiq (as) said, “He who is not able to do any good unto us (Ahlul-bayt) then he may do good to our pious adherents; and he who is not able to visit us, he may visit our righteous followers by which the reward of visiting us (pilgrimage) will be recorded for him.” We also take this day as an opportunity to curse all the enemies of the Ahlul-bayt (as).
May Allah’s wrath fall on all the (past and present) enemies of Ahlul-bayt (as) from the time of their crimes till the Day of Judgment, and also may Allah’s wrath fall on all those who were silent and supportive of these crimes.  May Allah swt raise us among the helpers of our 12th Imam a.s.

Four Historical Events of this Day of 9th Rabi al-Awwal:

Narrators of history suggest four historic events which mark the day of 9th Rabi al-Awwal as significant. Firstly, some historians are of the opinion that the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was born on the 9th of Rabi al-Awwal. There are two other opinions: 12th Rabi al-Awwal and 17th Rabi al-Awwal respectively. For the Shia’s, the most popular narration is the one which states that the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was born on the 17th Rabi al-Awwal 570 AD.

Whatever the case, the date does not make a big difference. Because Ayatullah Ruhullah Musawi al-Khomeini (ra), the founder of the Islamic revolution had declared the week between 9th and 17th Rabi al-Awwal as “Usboo al-Wahda” meaning “the week of unity amongst Muslims.” Muslims all over the world are urged to get together and celebrate (Eid-E-Milad un Nabi) the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) for the whole week.

Secondly, in regards to the importance of this day, it is noted that the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) himself was seen smiling and ‘celebrating’ once in the gathering in the city of Madinah on this day while in the presence of Imams Ali, Imam Hassan and Imam Hussain (as) and said, “It is on this day that Allah (SWT) will destroy your enemies and the enemies of your grandfather and it is on this day when Allah (SWT) will accept the actions of your Shia and those who love you. This is the day when the words of Allah (SWT) came true where He said (in the Glorious Qur’an): ‘So those are the houses fallen down because they were unjust …’ (27:52). And this is the day when the Pharaoh (Firawn) of the time of the Ahlul Bayt was destroyed …”

Thirdly, the 9th of Rabi al-Awwal is also known as Eid-E-Zahra meaning the festival of Fatima al-Zahra (sa), because 3 to 4 years after the tragedy of Karbala, it was on this day that joy and happiness was restored in the family of Ahlul Bayt (as). From the tragedy of Karbala in 61 AH till this day, the family members of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) had continuously mourned and grieved the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (as).

Then Mukhtar ibn Ubaydullah al-Thaqafi, together with Ibrahim ibn Malik al-Ashtar and others rose to avenge the blood of Imam Hussain (as). They arrested every killer of karbala and executed them. Finally, Mukhtar arrested Umar ibn Saad ibn abi Waqqas (commander-in-chief of Yazeed’s army at Karbala) and Ubaydullah ibn Ziyad (governor of Yazeed in Kufa). He beheaded them and sent their heads to Imam Ali ibn al-Hussain al-Zainul Abideen (as) in Madina. These two heads reached the Imam Ali ibn al-Hussain al-Zainul Abideen (as) on the 9th Rabi al-Awwal and on seeing them, Imam (as) went into prostration (Sajda-E-Shukr) and said, “I thank Allah (SWT) who kept me alive to this day so that I could see the heads of the tyrants who killed my father.” Imam Ali ibn al-Hussain al-Zainul Abideen (as) then instructed the members of his family to remove the clothes of mourning, adorn themselves and celebrate the day with joy and happiness.

Umar ibn Saad ibn abi Waqqas (la), the killer of Imam Hussain (as) was the wretched criminal who was the first one to shoot an arrow towards Imam Hussain (as) on the 9th of Muharram al-Haram 61 AH, thus formally starting the war against Imam Hussain (as)! And he proclaimed, “O people of Kufa and Shaam, be witness hereto on the Day of Judgment, that I am the one who is the first to shoot an arrow at Hussain”! And saying this, he shot the arrow! Later, Imam Hussain (as) told them [the army of Yezeed whose commander-in-chief was this Umar ibn Saad ibn abi Waqqas (la)] after delivering an eye-opening Khutbah (sermon), that he needs to have a night for prayers!

Mukhtar ibn Ubaydullah al-Thaqafi announced the aims of his revolution in Masjid-E-Kufa, “I will conform to Allah’s Book and to His Prophet’s Sunnah. I will take the revenge on Imam Hussain’s killers. I will fight against those who have broken Allah’s laws. I will defend the weak against the strong.” It is only the lucky ones who have the opportunity to celebrate this Eid! This was the day; when for the first time after the massacre of his father Imam Hussain (as) and his companions that our 4th Imam, Imam Ali ibn al-Hussain al-Zainul Abideen (as) smiled! Is this not enough an excuse to celebrate? For, our joys are with the joys of Masoomeen (infallible) and our grief and sorrows are for them alone!

Hence, 9th of Rabi al-Awwal is the day of glory, honour, dignity and blessings. It is a great Eid day also named as “Eid-E-Shuja.”

Fourth or finally, 9th Rabi al-Awwal is the first day of the Imamate of our living Imam, al-Hujjat ibn Hassan al-Askari [may Allah (SWT) hasten his return] – a day of rejoicing and celebration.

It is true that an Imam is an Imam from birth but every Imam assumed the official role of his Imamate after the death of the previous Imam. The reason why we celebrate, in particular, the Imamate of our living Imam, al-Hujjat ibn Hassan al-Askari [may Allah (SWT) hasten his return] is to perhaps remind ourselves of his presence and about our responsibilities towards him. His father and our 11th Imam, Imam Hassan Askari (as) passed away on the 8th of Rabi al-Awwal 260 AH and our 12th Imam Muhammad al-Mahdi [may Allah (SWT) hasten his return] assumed his Imamate formally at a young age of 5 years on the 9th Rabi al-Awwal 260 AH.

We pray to Allah (SWT) to keep us firm on His path, and to always protect us from negligence in discharging our duties towards Him and our living Imam Muhammad al-Mahdi [may Allah (SWT) hasten his return], and to also include us among the Imam Muhammad al-Mahdi [may Allah (SWT) hasten his return] helpers and companions – Elahi Ameen.

One of the ways which we can strive to be amongst the companions of our living Imam Muhammad al-Mahdi [may Allah (SWT) hasten his return] is to follow the responsibilities which rest upon us, including the recitation of Dua al-Ahd (the Pledge) every morning in which we proclaim: “O’ Allah, truly I renew on the dawn of this day and all the days of the remainder of my life my pledge, covenant and allegiance to him, as my obligation, which I shall neither contravene, nor neglect … O’ Allah include me among his helpers, defenders, those fulfilling his wishes and commands, his defenders, the fore-runners to carry out his intentions and those to be martyred in his presence … O’ Allah: make him the refuge for Your oppressed servants; a helper for him who has no other helper besides You; the reviver of the commandments of Your book which have been neglected; the strengthener of the sciences in Your religion, and the traditions of Your Prophet. May Allah’s blessing be upon him and his progeny.”

Hadith about Imam Muhammad al-Mahdi [may Allah (SWT) hasten his return]:”The world will not come to an end,” said the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), “until a man from my family (Ahlul Bayt) and of my name shall be master of the world, When you see a green ensign coming from the direction of Khorasan, then join them, for the Imam of God will be with the standards who will be called Al-Mahdi.”

Last but not least: Ahmad ibn Ishaq al-Qummi was a great companion of our 11th Imam, Imam Hassan Askari (as). On the 9th Rabi al-Awwal, Muhammad Hamadani and Yahya Baghdadi came to visit him and were informed that Ahmad ibn Ishaq al-Qummi was busy performing Ghusl (Ablution) for that day. When they inquired what the Ghusl was about, they were told that Ahmad ibn Ishaq al-Qummi had heard from 10th Imam, Imam Hadi (as), who said: “9th of Rabi al-Awwal is the day of Eid. It is our greatest Eid and the Eid of our followers.”

After performing his Ghusl Ahmad ibn Ishaq al-Qummi said to the two visiting men: “I have performed Ghusl because today is the Eid of 9th Rabi al-Awwal. I visited Imam Hassan Askari (as) on this day and noticed that his ring was shinning. The people of his household wore new clothes and had applied perfume. When I asked the reason, Imam Hassan Askari (as) said, ‘Today is 9th Rabi al-Awwal. It is the day of Eid for us and for our followers'”. (Chauda Sitaare)

BUS ISLIYE AZEEZ HAI YE ZINDAGI HAMEY, HUM MARKE PHIR HUSSAIN KO RONE NA PAENGE
1929-2008
Born in 1929 A.D, Syed Mohammed Yousha “Faizi” was his adapted name in poetry. He was born into a religious family and he was the known eighth generation ALIM and his father Allama Qais Zangipuri was an internationally recognized Sha’er-e-Ahle Bayt(a.s). He was born in Zangipur district of Ghazipur. Zangipur requires no introduction amongst the community of keen followers of Shia theology for its title as “Seat of Islamic Theology” in the yesteryears.
He lost his mother at a very tender age of 12 and had his education at Jawadia Arabic College, Banaras. During his education itself his passion for Shaeri was well known, why not because he had inherited the same from his father.

He was a self made man, refined in manners, always stressing the performance of religious duties, observance of Islamic tenets. He was a great azadar and his death on Sham-e- Ghariban testifies it. He has written many books on various aspects of Islam.

He began his career as Imam-e-Juma in late 60’s in Ranchi, later served as imam-e-Juma at Basravi masjid in Kolkata and later in the year 1975 on the invitation of AnJuma n-e- imamia took up the responsibility as imam-e-Juma in Askari masjid Bangalore where he served till the end almost for 32yrs.He along with others brought Bangalore AZADARI, Maqasad and other religious activities to international recognition.

He served as a humble patron in various religious organizations, including member Karnataka State Board of Wakfs.

He was a learned and practical Alim, who would simplify complicated matters with ease any masaa’el (Islamic Laws) so as to make it interesting and practical and was an equally eloquent Zakir – e – Ahlebait(a.s) and Sha’er. It was a unique amalgamation , seldom it would be difficult to say what he is best at .

His passion for sha’eri was unparalled. His love for his native Zangipur was enormous.
In his entire life he could not visit Zangipur only on 5 occasions. It was his love for his watan which took him there even after his death, 2500 Kms from Banglore. He was known for his akhlaq and mehman nawazi and that gave him outmost satisfaction.

He was loved adored by all his relations, not only respected by his own community, but people across all religions respected him. His funeral at Zangipur was a testimony for that where people across all faiths congregated in chilling winter till the late evening to pay their tributes to him.

In the year 1974, he compiled Kaif-e-moaddat, collection of few well known qasaed
Rubaiyat of Qais Zangipuri in two different editions.

Later compiled Yaad-e-Karbala, collection of few well known nauhas of Qais Zangipuri.

Just days before his last breaths, he released the audio and video(VCDs) version of Yaad-e-karbala Vol-2, compiled by his son Saulath Abbas and earlier vol-1 compiled by his third son Majlisi Faizi.

His well known sher for azadari was “BUS ISLIYE AZEEZ HAI YE ZINDAGI HAMEY, HUM MARKE PHIR HUSSAIN KO RONE NA PAENGE”.
The trend mashallah continues as his son Syed Farqaleetha Ali Hussainy is serving as resident Alim in USA. His son Syed Qasid Abbas Hussainy is pursuing his Ilm-E-Deen(Islamic Education) and shall continue further.

Al-Tasleem (Submission) PROPHET IBRAHIM (AS)’S PRAYER:

Al-Tasleem (Submission) PROPHET IBRAHIM (AS)’S PRAYER:

There once lived a king who was very fond of jewels and gems. It is said that it was his hobby to collect as many jewels and gems as possible until a time came by that he had gathered so many of them that he had to build a strong room in his castle as a depository of those jewels.

The depository had one door with two locks: inner and outer. There were two separate keys for them which only the king used to carry. Once every week, the king would enter that room, lock himself from inside and spend a long time in it admiring his collection. This would make him extremely happy.

One day, it so happened that the king entered his depository and sat inside for a very long time. When it was time for him to come out, he realised that he had forgotten the key which would open the door from inside. He was trapped. He tried calling out for help but the room was made in such a way that nobody could hear him. As a result, he suffocated and died in it. Few days later, some ministers began to worry. They asked each other as to where the king had disappeared to but nobody could answer. Finally, it occurred to one of them to check in the depository. When the room was forced open, they saw their king lay dead on his jewels.

(Bikhre Moti)

The moral of this story is simple. Allah (SWT) has given us all two keys. One for this world and the other for Hereafter. Unfortunately most of us become so fond of this world that we forget to preserve the key for Hereafter. As a result, we die as losers.

PROPHET IBRAHIM (AS)’S PRAYER:

Prophet Ibrahim (as) is the champion of Monotheism. He (as) is one of the favourite prophets of Allah (SWT) who has been praised in several places in the Holy Quran.

The Holy Quran states some of the prayers made by this great Prophet. One of them is:

“Praise be to Allah who has given me Ismail and Is-haq inspite of my old age, verily my Lord hears the prayer. O my Lord! Make me keep up prayer and from my offspring (too). O Lord! Accept my prayer”. (14:39-40)

In other words he (as) has asked Allah (SWT) to keep him and his offspring firm on the path which leads one to Him. Elsewhere, Allah (SWT) is mentioning another similar prayer which both Prophet Ibrahim (as) and his son Prophet Ismail (as) had made.

“Our Lord! Make us both Muslims (submissive to You) and of our progeny a nation submissive to You…” (2:128)

We should also pray the same and work hard to keep ourselves and our offspring on the right path which leads to Allah (SWT).

AL-TASLEEM (SUBMISSION TO GOD):

What does “Submission to Allah (SWT)” mean?

This is a very wide subject and can be looked at from different perspectives. One such perspective is “to be submissive to what He (SWT) has decreed for us”.

Imam al-Sadiq (as) has said, “The servant (of Allah) is in between three things: Trials, Destiny and Bounty. During trials from Allah, he must exercise endurance, and in what has been decreed for him by Allah, he must be submissive to Him, and for the bounty from Allah, he must express his gratitude (to Him)”. (Bihar al-Anwaar)

Somebody asked Imam al-Sadiq (as), “By what can a Mu’min (believer) know that he is a Mu’min?” Imam (as) replied, “By being submissive to Allah and expressing pleasure in whatever has reached him of happiness and annoyance”. (Bihar al-Anwaar)

COMMON COMPLAIN:

In today’s world, we see many people have abandoned Allah (SWT) and are engrossed in all sorts of vices and material pleasures. Those who strive to follow Sharia’h many at times feel left out and also feel disappointed. It is common to hear them complain: “Because of Islam, we feel left out in the society in which we are residing”. Or “We cannot enjoy life freely as other nations do”. Such people feel that Islam has imprisoned them. Note the following three points:

  1. If we have, out of our own free will, chosen to follow Islam, then to be true Muslims, we will have to submit ourselves to the will of God. The Holy Prophet (saww) has said, “Islam is submission” (Meezan al-Hikmah) which means we shall be required to sacrifice any such pleasure of the world which Allah (SWT) has forbidden. The Holy Prophet (saww) said, “This world is a prison for a believer and a paradise for a non-believer” (Makarim al-Akhlaaq)

  1. People who enjoy all the pleasures, appear so, because we only see them from the surface. In reality, their enjoyment is a signal of distress that they are discontented. This indeed is a real imprisonment. They are captives of their desires. They are captives of material things. They seek happiness and peace of heart in worldly things. Allah (SWT) says that contentment and peace of heart is acquired by His remembrance. “Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find peace”. (13:28)

  1. Those who submit to Allah (SWT) and are ever pleased with whatever He has decreed for them can never be losers. For them are great rewards in the hereafter if they believe. Quran says: “But you prefer the life of this world, and though the hereafter is better and abiding. Verily this is in the earlier scriptures. The scriptures of Ibrahim and Musa”. (87:16-19)
